Show p That Racket The Tribunes Ogden man refers to a public matter which deserves some at tention He says that a double row of trees are to set out entirely around liberty Park Square and that possi bly a racket in the City Council would ensue The correct statement is In a 1 previous sitting of the Council the Committee Com-mittee on Public Grounds were Publc empowered empow-ered to use an appropriation of 150 no more and no less for planting trees around Liberty Park a public square in the northeast part of town They might plant one or two rows and make other needed improvements all within the amount named This proved insufficient as reported at last Fridays session when the chairman of the committee Councilor Coun-cilor and Nurseryman Smuin admitted the amount appropriated had been nearly all expended and more money would bo needed to complete the t improvements as commenced including barbwire fencing for the protection of trees Alderman Dee then did start a racket by censuring the loose way in estimating a proposed improvement falling short of the appropriations and then coming to the Council with deficiency de-ficiency bills Alderman Wort of tho committee in jeopardy bobbed up in indignation in-dignation and wanted to explain I wasnt any of his or the other commit teemens personal interest t have the Liberty Square improved they didnt care to see the work stopped at tho exhaustion ex-haustion of the 150 etc Councilor Boyle took up Dees strain and strongly characterized arbitrary excesses in the use of public funds The racket of which the Church papers took no notice and which Mayor Eccles only with difficulty succeeded in squelching ended by an additional ad-ditional allowance of 50 or 60 to the committee to finish the work |
