| Show New Wevclopaiciits in the hLaxweJt II Caew ST Louis August 18A letter is i published pub-lished hero today dated Sunny Bank Cheshire England July 13th 1885 and signed Samuel N Brooks which speaks of his son H M Brooks having left home last January on a business trip to Ireland and that no word has been received from him since It had been learned however that he had a curate of the adjoining parish for a companion and that they had indulged I t dulged in various extravagances and that Brooks name had got mixed up with the St Louis trunk tragedy t and also got mixed up with Doctor Maxwell The letter shows great distress on the part of the writer and makes an urgent appeal for information in-formation regard to the person concerned in the murder A part of this letter was shown to Maxwell and he recognized the signature as that of his father and desired possession of the letter to write his father and tell him that he C Maxwell was innocent t inno-cent of the murder of Pieller and that he had a perfectly good defense In I the course of the conversation Maxwell pretty definitely identified Brooks and said that Preller was troubled with insomnia and he has prescribed chloroform for him on I several occasions and with benefit Preller I j however had heart disease he said and in imated that he had taken or had adminis tered to him on this occasion an overdose j with a fatal result This will be Brooks defense j de-fense when he comes to trial I |
