Show SODA SPRINGS IDAHO Preparations For the Summer Season at the Saratoga of the West Personal Per-sonal and Business Notes Some Natures Wonders in the Great Mineral Water Region of the North Countrec A Visit to the Hooper ali Formation I Springs Wonderful Caves and Grand Natural Architecture Special Correspondence TiE DEMOCRAT I Soda Springs i a very picturesque place and in the near future is bound to become a popular place of resort in the summer time Not only for our mountain moun-tain people but for those from the East and West This region not only for its health fulness but for the curiosties that nature has produced especially in the I way Springs will bring many people here that are seeking health and recreation recrea-tion The drives are beautiful and are from three to ten miles in length Through the kindness of Mr H Hors ley a leading merchant fcf f this place I took a drive to Hooper Spring and Formation Form-ation Springs last Sunday Hooper Springs is situated about one mile north of the town df f Soda Springs in the valley val-ley of Soda Creek One of the springs is as far as is known bottomless and so charged with gas that one lying down and drinking from it would become suffocated suf-focated almost and in one instance has caused death From Hooper springs to Formation is about two miles over a rolling prairie none of your Utah ones but a genuine Western prairie with plenty of grass and very little sago brush I have not the ability geologically to desceibe Formation For-mation springs but will give you the whereabouts and a simple description of them They are situated on the divide between Soda Creek and Black Foot river the river being about eight miles distant A small stream comes strongly impregnated with lime and as it advances into the valley it forms by natural causes a sort of a railroad grade as you might term it thirty feet high The water the end of the grade runs over the sides and end forming battlements towers and caves of different shapes and sizesaud of various heights We went dom into one cave about fifty feet but being without lights could not go any further As far as we went I can assure you it vas grand Another feature the stream is that at the terminus of the grade is found aj bench about one one half mile wide the water flowing in all directions and forming form-ing a most wonderful sight The summit sum-mit of the grade is covered with willows and other wild shrubbery the surrounding surround-ing mountains with green grass There are other places ofi interest here but I havo not had time to visit them GENERAL NOTES About business men and business in I general much could be said but space in your valuable paper would not permit Tim most important one is Mr H Horsley ho being the leading merchant here having succeeded the Coop which died a natural death the climate not being be-ing healthy for such institutions in Idaho Mr Tlios Horsley keeps one of the finest private boarding houses that I ever stopped at Mrs Williams keeps I boarders and has a fine lanre residence There are some fine cottages belonging to prominent men of Salt Lake and other places The four estates of Win Hooper have two fine cottages Mr G Y Wallace has one of the finest in the place as has the well known Captain Codman The new building for the bottling works is nearly completed The machinery ma-chinery is put in its place and in a few days will he running in full blast A ball will be given in the building on Friday evening and a good time is expected ex-pected THE DEMOCRAT representative will be there and report the affair in full next time Under the energetic rustler Mr Henry Denbatert of Salt Lake all of the machinery ma-chinery has been put up and is very nearly ready to start and he says he will run out a car load of mineral water every day He as the superintendent is the right man in the right place Mr Hyde of Hyde McCIoy of Butte contractor for the building of the Idaho Hotel here has fifteen ineen at work on the building and would put more on i he could get lumber quick enough from Oregon D R F |
