Show M SHEAHMANS ATTITUDE I Time Keal Enemies of thc Mormons Tie DoNot ant Them to Obey thc Law EDITOR DEMOCRAT I regret to learn that many of the Mormon people regard my recent letter in reference to Orson Arnqld as an evidence of enmity on my I imagined until after its part I never unt afer publication par that it could be so construed publcation solicitous for their wel I was sincerely solcitous fare in what I said and still think my irrefutable I conclusions were logically i speak whereof I know when I say that the real enemies of the Mormons do not want them to obey the laws and are today uneasy lest the leaders should decide to do so Now were I in The situation some men notwhat in this community are could not ever the consequences to myself choose between two wives to discard one and retain re-tain the other But I could make any needed sacrifice of my own personal comfort com-fort for their sakes and I would obey the law by honesty separating from both for the remainder of my life if necessary so that I might be able to continue to provide pro-vide for them and watch over my children dren In these days when the spirit of destruction de-struction seems to permeate the very atmosphere at-mosphere men seem ready to die for anything or nothing and it is always easier to get peopl to die for a cause than to live and labor for it But if the sacrifice lve my lifeand I mean just what I say would bring the Mormons a happy issue out of all their troubles and settle the present controversy on the side sette of absolute justice and righteousness it would be cheerfully given Respectfully W I SHEARMAN Salt Lake City April 29th 1885 |
