Show Gcroulmo I WASHINGTON Sept 10The Army and i Nary Register tomorrow will say If public pub-lic opinion in and out of the army has weight in deciding the fate of Geronimo and his murderous band they will be tried by a military commission speedily convicted and executed without delay There is a precedent for such treatment of them if one is needed in the case of the trial by a military mili-tary commission of the Sioux after the Minnesota Min-nesota massacres in 1862 Five hundred prisoners were put on trial 300 of whom were found guilty of murder and thirty eight were hanged Every one of the band was a prisoner of war at the time of his escape es-cape from San Carlos reservation They had been placed there by General Crook and wore given the liberty of the reservation on condition of not leaving it They broke this promise and used their privileges to escape es-cape in order to take the warpath They are paroled prisoners taken redhanded in the acts of war and should suffer the punishment pun-ishment adjudged by the law of war to such acts of treachery SAN FKANCISOO Sept 10 Official dispatches dis-patches at the Presidio from Arizona say that the War Department has approved of the action of General Miles in removing the captured Indians to Florida He directed General Stanley to take oharge of Geronimo and other hostiles on their arrival at San Antonio and hold them as prisoners of war I |
