Show I THE NATIONAL FOURTH Generally Observed Throughout the Country by All Classes American Residents at Classic Biiigen I Celebrate ill Fine Style No Record of Any Place nut Salt Lake Where the Flag Was at Half 3Iast Washed Oil the Track b j a Spout SAX AKTOXIO Texas July 5This morning near Weldon 1m miles west of here a freight train was struck by a waterspout The engineer en-gineer saw the spout approaching bounding along like a rubber ball tearing up the earth and uprooting all vegetation in its way and he reversed the tram to avoid the spout whose course was tortuous with column inclined and rotary motion Just before the spout reached the line of the road it changed i its course and spun along parallel to the track with frightful velocity and when opposite op-posite the train burst deluging the engineer firemen aud brakemen who abandoned the train and climbed trees to avoid a wave of water eight feet high and 100 feet wide Tho locomotive and fourteen cars were raised bodily and carried nearly 200 feet from the track while the roadbed was completely obliterated No one was hurt The extent of the damage is not yet ascertained |
