Show They Fought in the Mexican War INDIANAPOLIS September 17Tho annual I I reunion of the National Mexican Veterans Association began in this city yesterday I About 300 veterans including representatives of the majority of the States of the Union are present The publio buildings and a number of private houses draped the national na-tional colors in honor of the veterans and though decorations are not extensive the welcome is hearty At 2 oclock yesterday the veterans escorted by tho militia paraded the streets in a procession being reviewed by Governor Gray from the steps of the Court House Tho procession filed into tho building and the meeting was called to order or-der by General J W Denver President of the Association General M D Mason of Indiana made the welcoming speech and was followed by Mayor MoMaster General Denver responding respond-ing in behalf of the veterans The committee com-mittee on resolutions nnd organization were appointed and the session adjourned Reports of the secretary show an aggregate aggre-gate number of members of 417 veterans enrolled The total numerical strength of the association is about 8500 The secretary discussed the history of tho failure of the Mexican Pension bill in tho last Congress and recommended that the names of the tricksters who distracted the supporters of the bill should be boycotted by every true soldier and soldiQrs son In the evening a largely attended reception recep-tion was held at the Masonic Hall General Denver presided and tho meeting was in I every way successful Addresses were made I by Governor Gray General Mason and ox I Governor Porter and Mayor G W Gordon and an original poem by Mrs Sarah T Bol ton was read The Association continue its session today the meeting concluding with a banquet in the evening |
