Show Confederate Veterans Upon learning that there is a movement move-ment on foot in Salt Lake City to form an organization of former members of the Confederate army of 1861 to 1805 similar to the Grand Army of the Republic which represents the valor of the Union troops our reporter called upon Coleman L Williamson from whom he got some information eoncerningfne matter For years he has been trying to organize a camp of exConfederate soldiers in Ogden not for the purpose of rekindling the hap its pily deplorable extinct fires and of the lamentable Civil War horrors and all but to keep alive the old reminiscences of comradeship in arms and preserve the bonds of friendship then formed irrespective I spective of political partisan or sectional issues all of which are to be banished I and buried forever I The organization branches of which extend over many States is called Con federate Veterans The headquarters are the Robert E Lee Camp at Richmond Rich-mond Virginia with a membership of between 100 and 500 To form a branch of this organization has been Mr Wil liamsons ambition for years but Wi 31 I though at one time there were as many ins i-ns sixty former boys in grey in this I city and vicinity he failed in his purpose j and now most of them mire scattered in all directions of the compass so Muit it alI doubtful whether the necessary number for a charter eleven could be mustered Still it is his intention and others are in favor of it to make an attempt to effect attmpt efect the object At the funeral ceremonies of Grant there were five exConfederates present paying the tribute of respect to their former conqueror Ogden News Hl j |
