Show I TilE SMALL POSTOFFICES Tlie Changes to be Blade by States on a Systematized Plan The PostmasterGeneral has at last decided de-cided upon a policy touching the small x > stoffices the incumbents of which have no fixed tenure of office and are appointed appoint-ed by the Postmaster General at his pleasure The policy is this Within a few days the PostmasterGeneral will take the subject up by States and will remove in each county onethird of those now holding office Those who will be I decapitated will be of a class who have made themselves offensive partisans The regenerating will begin with Virginia I The Congressional delegation for this State has already had aconference and fixed a state The Second state will be Ohio When ready to act the PostmasterGene ral will probably invite the Democrats of the Congressional delegation to meet him in this city and give him the list up to his onethird limit of those who should go This will be in about ten days or two weeks The excuse given for not making a complete change is that the clerical force of the postoflice department would not be sufficient to prepare the papers After all the states have gotten onethird of the offices it is the intention to begin anew and start on the other two thirds The arrangement is not wholly satisfactory satis-factory to Democratic Congressmen but that the theory they look happy upon onethird of the loaf is better than none at all |
