Show j I THAT TIMBER SEIZURE Seven Hundred Thousand ieet Ke plcviuod for rude Sam nt I Schofield I We referred briefly yesterday to a neiz ure of government timber by Receiver II C Wallace of the Land Office in this city The seizure was of wholesale proportions pro-portions amounting to over 700000 feet all of which had been advertised for sale at auction at Schofield by the possessor and claimant David Eccles Eccles sets up as defensive matter that ho had learned from several Federal officials at Ogden where he resides that timber on government lands was subject to the same rules and conditions as the taking ot coal tLerefrom that is if it could be used for I and by the person taking it but not for purposes of export and that a large number of persons have been thus engaged t en-gaged without molestation small fortunes I in some instances having been gained thereby Brother Eccles should remem her that everything must have a beginning begin-ning and that several wrongs do not I make even a fraction of one right I I is understood that other transgress ors are on the Land Office black list and I that those who represent the government in that branch of the service are determined deter-mined to be neither tardy nor lax in en I forcing all laws and regulations in such I cases made and provided Those who i know themselves at fault in the premises would do well to repent whats past beware be-ware what is to come |
