Show THE CITY COUNCIL Thc Warm Springs Incased at LuSt Petitions Deports Etc The regular weekly meeting of the City Council was held at the usual place last evening The Salt Lake Brewery Company asked that they be given some sort oi fire protection in return for the heavy taxes that they have been paying for so many years Committee on Waterworks C M Donelson Henry Dinwoody and others asked that the longcontemplated pipes to the cemetery be laid at once Referred to the Mayor 0 P Arnold superintendent of thv Street Railway Company asked the city to accept a tax of25 per annum on each car in lieu of the per capita tax on the number of passengers carried Committee Commit-tee License Ed McClellan stated that he had purchased the liquor business of Dn C Tufts and asked for a transfer of his license Granted John Alford asked for a free license for Mrs Williams foulo business Committee Commit-tee on License James Hegeny the California Wine Company and the Salt Lake Brewery were granted three months license Mr Webber requested that Mr El dredge be allowed to pile building material ma-terial in front of his contemplated building build-ing on Main street Granted N C Christianson asked that he be allowed to pile building material on Second South and First East streets Granted REPOUTS The superintendent of waterworks presented pre-sented his report for the quarter ending February 281887 the total of expenditures expendi-tures was 1018338 Referred The Mayor reported the completion of the extension of the water works 15000 feet further up the canyon and stated that the city was now indebted to the firm of Dennis Long Co Louisville Ky in the sum of 10000 for water pipe Arrangements had been made to give the note of the city corporation for the amount at G per cent per annum on or before March 1 1888 and he asked that he be given the necessary authority to execute the note He also stated that that there was now in the city sinking fund for the redemption of bonds about the sum of 32000 and he recommended that a call be made for sufficient bonds to consume the amount Referred to Committee on Finance The Committe on Police reported that they had examined and found correct the report of the Marshal for March and that of the Police Justice for the same month The Committee on Canal reported similarly on the report of expenditures for March in that department The Committee on Public Grounds reported similarly of the report of expenditures expen-ditures in Liberty Park The Committee on Inprovemeuts reported re-ported that they had selected Policeman Andrew Smith from among the many petitions as lessee of the Warm Springs recommending that he be given a four years lease at 25 per mGhth Laid on the table An appropriation of 28 to Mrs Ellen Kay and one of 20 to the dogtax collector col-lector were made The sum of 1400 was appropriated to J C Kingsbury as the yearly interest on two 10000 corporation notes held by himThe The nuisance ordinance was then taken up discussed and passed Adjourned |
