Show < U SThWAKT UTAH HI COHD Patlont research of the Congressional Records of the session of 18GJiO do elops tire fact that on the evening of May 18th 1870 the Cullom bill was considered con-sidered in the Senate Mr Cragm making an able and lengthy speech In its favor Senator Stewarts marco Is not mentioned men-tioned in connection with tho debate nor with army of the proceedings relating to I the bill while it was in the possession j of the Senate rice bill was upon motion I of Senator Warner restored to Its place on tho calendar and that is thc last I oferenco to It that can bo found in the records of tho session Wo aro informed how over that It was afterwards re referred to a committee of which Ne of Nevada Mr Stewarts colleague was chairman and that it never was returned to tho Senate In short the bill was pocketed by the chairman There was never a test vote upon it In the Senate 80 there is nothing to indicate how Mr Stewart would have voted If I It had come up upon its final passage So far as the record shows ho took no active pal t for or against the bill The volume of the Record rc ating to the Poland bill is missing from tine Territorial library and we were tenable to obtain any official information In regard to Mr Stewarts voto on that measure The DEMOCRAT will however take the pains to ascertain the fact and If f tho gentlemans course was correct upot that matter ho will receive full credit for it in theso columns |
