Show A MASS CONVENTION The result cf the conference between the Democratic and Liberal County Committees Com-mittees last evening was a fizzle Nothing Noth-ing else could have been expected when it was known beforehand that members of the Republican and Liberal Committees Commit-tees had been in consultation and a pro gramme agreed upon There is not a loubt but the same parson dictated the Republican declination and the Liberal acceptance of the Democratic Committees Commit-tees invitations Both were written upon Colonel Hollisters Internal Revenue Department letter heads and both might have borne the same hand writing so far as any division of purpose or identity was concerned The representative represen-tative of the Republican Committee concluded con-cluded that the partisan ends of the faction fac-tion which he leads could be better accomplished ac-complished through the Liberal than the Republican Committee The refusal of the Liberal Committee to yield to the reasonablo request of the County representatives repre-sentatives of the dominant party of the Nation will make the former responsible for whatever results may follow While the members admitted the justice of a fair division of the nominations between the two National parties they refused to act in concert with any movement whereby where-by the Democrats might choose their own representatives upon the tickets Knowing as they didand 03 they admitted that the antiMormon vote would be increased in-creased by permitting the Democrats to select their own men they would not yield an inch make any concession or suggest any method by which a consolidated vote could be secured Tho only reasonable inference is that they regard defeat under the old method preferable to victory attained by any recognition re-cognition whatever of the Democratic part The Damocratic Committee hay lug exhausted all of their efforts in attempting at-tempting to secure harmonious action of the antiMormon element have adopted the only course consistent with the principles prin-ciples and the dignity of the party they represent They have called a mass convention con-vention of the Democrats of the count and left it for them to decide upon the proper course to be pursued under the circumstances 5 |
