Show Chandler and Biiigliaiu CONCOBD N H June 10A Republican Senatorial caucus was held last night There was a largo attendance of members and the galleries were crowded with spectators Senator Morrison moved that the caucus nominate two candidates one for the un expired portion of the term of the lat ex Senator Pike and one for the term beginning March 4 1888 A sharp debate ensued in which Mr Stoneman announced that if the motion contemplated the submission of all the questions connected with the Senatorial controversy they were willingto abide the result of the caucus I it did not they would not agree to it Morrisons motion was rejected by 77 toS The margin in opposition to the election of two Senators was much smaller than was onticipaten by the Chandler men It was then voted to proceed to nominate by ballot n candidate to fill the vacancy occasioned by the death of Mr Pike The voting proceeded amid much excitement and resulted as follows Whole number 1W5 necessary to a choice 79 Charles H Burns of Wilton 1 Pierce C Chenoy of Manchester 2 James W Patterson of Hanover 1 Oilman Marston of Exeter 21 Wm G Chandler of Concord 118 Mr Chandler was declared the nominee The result was received with longcontinued applause On motion the nomination was made unanimous among much enthusiasm A committee was sent to notify Chandler and request his presence When ho appeared ap-peared he was warmly greeted and spoke at considerable length The Democrats of the Legislature last night Senator nominated Hon Harvey Bingham for |
