Show OUR GOLD AND SILVER Nearly Eighty millions of the Two Metals Produced 1884 WASHINGTON April 20 Burchard i Director of the Mint in his special annual an-nual report of the production of gold and silver in the United States for the calendar calen-dar year of 1884 which has been ordered printed estimates the production of the country to have been Gold 30800000 silver computed at the silver dollar coinage rate 48800000 total 79 600000 This shows an increase over the yield of the previous year of about 800 000 gold and 2400000 silver The total deposits of gold at the mints during the year amounted to 50518179 of which 30807200 was reported as domestic i do-mestic The exports of gold bullion exclusive ex-clusive of United States bars amounted to only 115000 To the amount deposited de-posited at the mints and the small amount exported might properly be added 600000 worth of gold contained in silver bullion exported and also possibly pos-sibly 700000 of undeposited gold in the form of nuggets grains etc used in ornamentation or-namentation and 200000 in bars in private refineries used for similar purposes pur-poses which would make in all an addi tion of about 1500000 but of gold received re-ceived from British Columbia and the Northern States of Mexico amounting to about 1100000 only 400000 was deposited de-posited at the San Francisco mint as foreign and statements furnished by re finers show that it was refined by them and included in the refined bullion deposits de-posits at that mint under the head of domestic |
