Show S ORLANDO TV POWERS 3T2ic Hecord of the New Judyc He Will PrcbaTbly Go to Ecnvcr A DEMOCRAT representative called this morning upon a lady who was formerly a resident of Kalamazoo Michigan for the purpose of ascertaining something further about Utahs new judge Yes replied the lady in response to the reporters inquiries I am personally acquainted with Judge Powers and know 1 him very well indeed lIe came to Kalamazoo from Pulnevville New York been about fifteen years ago and has associated in the law practice with Charles S May who was formerly lieu tenantgovernor of the State I think he must be about forty years of age Is he an incumbent of the bench at present No and never has been He gained the title of Judge since he became an applicant for the Utah judgship I have known for some time that he was exerting exert-ing himself to secure the appointment but never imagined he would get it Both he and his law partner are active politicians politi-cians and Mr Powers was the Democratic Democra-tic leader of the last State campaign Mr Powers wields a ready pen and his a great taste for literary and newspaper news-paper work having done a good deal of editorial work on the Kalamazoo Gazelle lIe is the author of several legal works which have given him some reputation hut I do not think he has has ever been considered a very profound lawyer lIe was married to a lady of Ptitneyville New York about eight year ago but has no children The lady then directed the reporters attention to a paragraph in a Kalamazoo paper of the 17th inst announcing that O W Powers had been elected city attorney at-torney of that city It is not known when Judge Powers will arrive but it is generally believed l > he will accompany Col Win M Ferry when the latter returns from the East A DEMOCRAT reporter was informed this morning by one whom he considers good authority that it is Governor Murrays intention to assign Judge J Powers to the Second District and allow Judge Boreman remain in the First |
