| Show r Is Bruin Pride not enough i k Leslie Conder SLL Staff Writer You are on a date with a really really really real real- ly great person Everything is going great They think that you are funny fumy and you think that they are the epitome of the theN theN N Sync song God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You Then it happens They ask Are you in school You answer Yes And then they state That is so cool You breathe a sigh of relief but realize that it was too soon because just then they ask So where do you go to school Oh just There it is the just You know that you have used that before When someone asks you where you go to college college college col col- col- col lege you say Just Why do we as mighty Bruins shy away from proclaiming to others where we go to school Maybe the reason that we all decide to add the just in in the name of our beloved school is because we have all seen the face You know the face that I Iam Iam Iam am talking about The very first time someone asked you where you went to school and you told them Salt Lake Community College with a smile I might add and you were given the look The look of oh I am so sorry for you The look of oh you must have been a failure or slacker in high school to go to The look of What are you doing with your life I thought that you were such a bright individual individual ual and now I know that I was wrong because you are wasting your time at All of the emotions were emitted in that one look And since since that look you have been answering the same question with the same answer Just You might have added something like but I am planning on transferring up to the U after I get my associates Or but that thatis is because it is cheaper than attending the U for all four years All of these are great excuses and might actually be the case in a lot of your situa situa- Why however do we feel that we have to explain our whole schooling career whenever whenever whenever when when- ever anyone asks us where we wego wego wego go to school It might be because of the word Community in our schools title Or maybe its it's because it is not a big university university university sity like the University of Utah or Brigham Young University Whatever the reason it is ridiculous This is a great school Where else can you go goto goto goto to school everyday and feel as asif asif asif if you have never left high school classroom size that is Also there is a lot of diversity in m our wonderful school There arc students who are from Sudan There are single moms and dads who are trying to tomake tomake tomake make a better life for they and their families There is a 24 year-old year girl who has wasted a alot alot alot lot of time in the past and is isnow isnow now just trying to make an honest honest honest hon hon- est go of college even though in all reality she should have graduated from college already What other college tells you that you need certain courses to graduate but you didn't need those courses and they didn't even transfer to the U of U Also what other college can you go to where attendance is taken and you are docked points for not showing This college is great And just because it is a community community community com com- college does docs not mean that you have it easier than regular regular regular reg reg- reg- reg ular colleges I believe that is a false statement We have teachers teach teach- ers here who give Communism a run for its money They know that we arc are paying money for this schooling and they will make us aware of every penny we have spent And if you have English here forget about it Those English teachers are the toughest If they smell a hint of potential in you they will make you work hard and spend the rest of the semester proving themselves right All in all this is a great college college college col col- col- col lege and I am proud to go here Just dont don't tell my mom She thinks that I go to Northwestern |
