Show Fair shows howling variety of possible a tiers car majors Clayton K Thompson Contributing Writer Did you know you can get an Associate of Science Degree to become a professional pilot an emergency medical technician or ora ora ora a real estate appraiser right here at What about a degree in automotive collision repair aviation aviation aviation avia avia- tion technology or criminal j justice jus stice s- s tice Information on all this and so much more was covered at the Major Career fair in the Student Center on Oct 19 Departments from all over the school filled the Student Center with booths offering offering offering offer offer- ing information on topics ranging from financial aid to study abroad programs to the Air National Guard all of it designed to help students discover programs they may not have known were available available available avail avail- able at Representatives were on hand to pass out pamphlets and answer questions about their respective fields of study In some cases they were there to give students more information about their department In others they were there just to let students know they existed Dustin Wamsley from the Professional Pilot program didn't seem surprised that few had heard of the program He called it one of best kept secrets The fair was quite informative A wealth of information about courses being offered by the English department this spring included The broadcast and print journalism programs the library N ij t lei N- N C t. t I T 0 IF a E t 0 I r Y rY I 0 t. t X A U Students receive helpful information for their next research paper technician program and information information information tion about the writing center center center cen cen- ter which offers consultations on written assignments that students might want help with The writing center was just one of the student services represent represent- ed Folks from Financial Aid Aidt the Skills Center Distance Education and the Learning Center were allon all allon allon on hand and ready to answer any questions The Study Abroad program program program pro pro- gram had a booth with pamphlets on the programs they offer in Japan London Vietnam Shanghai and Mexico For those who haven't yet chosen chosen chosen cho cho- sen a major Career Academic advising had people there with handouts designed to help students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents think about which careers or majors they might be interested in inand inand inand and schedules for their free work work- shops These workshops are one hour Career Fair Cont Cant on Page 4 Career Fair Cont from front long free of charge and ands s scheduled for the rest of the year The workshops will be held most Tuesdays at 12 pm p.m. and pm p.m. and most Wednesdays at 1 pm p.m. in inthe inthe inthe the Student Center room Their pamphlets stress that a student should major in something something something some some- thing he or she enjoys and offers some career choices for certain majors In order to encourage participation meal tickets tickets tickets tick tick- ets were given out to stu stu- stu- stu dents who could get the tickets signed by booth attendants by asking a question about their department Three signatures signatures signatures sig sig- sig- sig natures meant the attendee could get free food Students were also rewarded with snacks if they completed an evaluation evaluation evaluation evalu evalu- form Just in case there wasn't enough food is there such a thing some of the booths were passing out Halloween candy There was also a Wheel of Fortune game where you could win prizes by answering trivia questions about In keeping with the spirit of the season the booths were decorated with clever Halloween designs Some of the staff members were even dressed up in costumes Weaving in and out of the corridors throughout the main level of the student student student stu stu- stu- stu dent center there were ghosts pumpkins bubbling bubbling bubbling bub bub- bling cauldrons spider webs and at least one larger and uglier than gl ier- ier than than- normal spider The medical medical medical med med- ical assistant booth had a giant ghost encouraging visitors to have their blood pressure checked there Orange and black were the colors of the day |
