Show Back to school I Christian Robert Leikam Campus Reporter During the summer months Salt Lake Community College is a sleeping giant Parking lots are empty lines are short doors locked Students who haven't attended the school before have grown accustomed to this sleeping giant through their various visits for registration orientation buying books and so on But in late August the doors are unlocked the lines grow indefinitely and the parking lots fill up exponentially When the beast that is awakens these students may be shocked at just how busy the school gets The walk from the parking lot the parking lot lota a mile away from your yow class that you were forced to park in because every other lot is full is quite an experience up Easy-up vinyl canopies line the sidewalks with offers you cant can't they would be pretty impossible to refuse if you had time to break your brisk pace too bad youre you're en route to class It may even be a potential sensory overload walking around the perimeter of the student center on Back to School Week as everywhere yo you you go there are opportunities Opportunities for free cereal a anew anew anew new bank account which could result in winning a spanking new scooter to ride to school or any other number of chances a freshman wouldn't necessarily expect to encounter in their first week of college There are all kinds of events going on during the back to school week like Mad Chad- Chad Chainsaw Juggler running three days in a row-August row This is of course too late to actually alert anybody of that particular event but its it's just a good example of the kind of things to be found going on around the campuses during back to school week If you missed the chainsaw juggling you should at least check out Mad Chads Chad's if you get geta a minute com corn Back to School Week is definitely the time the sleeping giant wakes up and one of the first things it does is have chainsaw juggling events Anybody who sleeps pretty much all summer then juggles chainsaws as soon as they wake up is just alright in my book The question lingers asto as asto asto to whether the magic of Back to School Week will stick around throughout the semester or if like Frosty the Snowman it will have suddenly vanished only to return for the first week of every semester in the future Either way the week itself has winded down and its it's time to get comfortable for 16 weeks of classes This week did go by rather quickly and next week classes will be in full swing Of course there will be a constant stream of activities to take partin part partin partin in throughout the semester but free cereal on the sidewalk You might have it offered to you again during the honestly the free cereal table during Back to School Week was probably the only time you should accept dairy from a stranger standing by a sidewalk |
