W V f fW W f m Nitz T r m andAni and andAni f WB 3 Ani Arakelian Its It's hard to miss lines stretching as far as the eye can see scarcity of desks and over offerings of the freshman writing course English 1010 enrollment numbers are up all across the board Numbers are up significantly from last year Joy spokesman stated Right now we dont have any kind of official number the to day day count wavers somewhere between 13 and 18 percent This equates to roughly an additional 2000 to students attending this semester We wont have an official number that will be released by The Utah System of Higher Education for a couple more weeks College officials have been scrambling to keep I up with the demand and have hired up to adjunct faculties over the past several months We definitely have hired more faculty mostly adjunct faculty and we have really expanded the pool of people that we can use in the adjunct ranks said I like a bit more one-on- one one time with instructors and besides a affordability the class size drew me here states Brian Naylor freshman He says he views the larger enrollment with mixed emotions chance to meet a greater number of new people but I dont don't know if the school will be able to efficiently handle the increase and still meet educational standards The administration remains optimistic about the new semester and the schools school's ability to not only provide the quality education it has but strives to maintain flexibility for students another quality prides itself on I think its it's been something we notices might happen earlier in the year with the four percent increase last fall and then eight percent in the spring and then 12 percent for summer we knew this was coming says and really participated in a series of activities and perorations to be ready for the first bit of school here Officials have increased the number of Saturday classes by 18 percent and afternoon classes by 9 to keep with the higher demand in these key offering areas which include English math and communications according to the Office for Student Services I really am proud of all of the effort and work that has gone into making sure that students are getting the classes that they need and getting people registered and ready to go for school says Increased enrollment is a trend being seen around the country and many schools are trying new ways to not only provide the best education possible but also handling large budget cuts due a weaker economy By the numbers Since 2005 fall semester enrollment at has remained steady at around students This semester enrollment at the College is expected to be over |
