Show Students feel the book burden John Glade Contributing Writer If there is anything that is more burdensome to a college student it is the fact they have to pay an amazing amount of money f for r college text textbooks Not only is the cost of education going through the roof but college students are being subjected to outrageous prices for their course textbooks With book prices as they are now and education being more more and more essential in society there seems little hope that students will willbe willbe willbe be able to escape the high expense of their education Kevin Taylor a current full- full time student at is taking 13 credits and has paid as much muchas as for his semester college books I even got some of them used at a discount price said Taylor Even with used discount prices college textbooks are giving students a run for their money For college students sometimes being as poor as they are they seem to pay the most for their education tion said Rachel Peterson a supervisor at the College Bookstore at Redwood Campus At the bookstore Peterson explains that the college is barely making a profit off their books due to their high cost and low mark up value for resale Due to this the extreme costs do not usually fall upon the thc college but the manufacturers and publishers of the books themselves Peterson and many others do not agree with the high prices but realize that is doing all they can to help helpin in the situation One of the special offers that are available at the store is is the opportunity to sale back your book with up to a 50 percent return from the original new price Though this opportunity may seem great keep in mind that not all of or orthe the books are able to be returned Some books are discontinued due to upgrades and newer editions sometimes making the older edition unusable Some books also come with software that uses an access code that usually can only be used once If you have any of these types of books returning them may be limited As time has gone on many have also looked to the internet to find their course textbooks Web sites featuring discounted or half off prices have catered greatly Textbooks Continued on r r v r tJ T E E b 11 v.- v. v. t L.
