Show Photography studio opens eyes of communication students L l J Jf Ji Ju t- t u f i ti I j jk k y u 00 o y Kathryn ones unc communication students took a field trip to Photography by Laurie to learn the value of photographic art Kathryn Jones Campus Editor The new two room by Laurie once housed in Murray and recently relocated at 1064 East and 2100 South in Sugarhouse gave 16 Communication students an opportunity to view photography ask questions learn Icam about even get their picture taken by Laurie Bray owner It was a chance for the Communication students to experience the world of photography Ive only been here about six weeks said Bray who T 1 has been in the photography business for about 29 years She is happy about the new location which has taken her away from the constant construction the constantly moving tenants and the expensive r rent nt shed she'd previously experienced Today she is getting things organized taking on new clients and meeting new students And she is taking on a new trend the biggest photography has seen in the last few years Digital But not only that Picture taking itself has taken a giant leap said Bray Pictures have become a lot lotmore lotmore lotmore more candid Since Vietnam journalists have been able to take pictures even in war zones said Bray who explained that this open door policy has made a huge difference in coverage and our perception of what is going on Today Bray and her employees photograph weddings families graduates even Utah's House of Representatives They photograph individuals and groups and use various print mediums such as color black and white sepia tone paint art and neon glow Pictures are taken within and without the studio t All the stuff you see in my studio is really outdoors I dont don't use fake backgrounds Though some pictures are arc retouched what some might call manipulation Bray said that retouching helps and that some pictures need it Photography by Laurie takes care of spots head swaps where another better head shot is replaced by a less than wonderful one even missing teeth in a child in an otherwise beautiful family picture Standing by a family Photography Continued on page 3 r Photography field trip Continued from page 1 i portrait she said The mother didn't like the girls belly showing so we extended the orange In another We had to add a tooth This is done by a photo editing software called Something 1 I Amy McConkie s student student was happy to see It was cool sh she said excited to see the process process It was interesting and fun said Paige Evertsen student Just awkward to get my picture taken taken In the end most of the students got their picture taken And students saw how a picture could change from background color to getting rid of a tiny spot on ona a sweatshirt The experience of seeing how worked gave student Terra Matthews some extra incentive to keep her own love of photography photograph growing Its interesting to see what they can do the things they can change said Matthews on her way out They can swap heads so Im I'm sure they can do anything |
