S WETLAND WEILAND Arts Editor I really grew to admire these men who have sacrificed in serving their country stated Owen Wilson after living among pilots and undergoing survival training for the newly released Behind Enemy Lines As Lieutenant Chris Burnett Wilson Vilson portrays a naval aviator feeling a sense urgency to find some fighting action to make his time seem worthwhile After an argument with Admiral Reigart played by Gene Hackman it is agreed that he Burnett would leave the navy shortly Reigart believes Burnett hasn't learned what it truly means to be a soldier Burnett is then sent on a aroutine aroutine aroutine routine mission on Christmas Day Believing it was a deliberate deliberate deliberate erate attack from Reigart Burnett is furious he was cho cho- sen On the reconnaissance reconnaissance sance sane mission Burnett takes photos behind authorized flying flying flying fly fly- ing zones and as a result is shot down Reigart is then faced with a the moral decision teetering on Naval rules and ethical integrity So begins the film an enthralled action-enthralled movie with sentimental ties This story of loyalty nationalistic ideas and sheer iron will leaves its audience thinking I do have to ad admit nit however within my cynical mind I was expecting an imitation imitation imitation imi imi- tation war story with pointless fighting and irrational battle tactics used only to entice patriotic romantics to feel good about this country's ability ability ability abil abil- ity to control certain political spheres This was not such a movie I found myself believing in the plot which was fast paced enough that I didn't have time to predict the next scene The cinematography was fantastic Through random random random ran ran- dom shots and jumpy camera movements it allowed the viewer to become part of the he chaos time First-time feature director John Moore was lucky enough to get this job from his 1999 Sega video video- game commercial for the MTV Music Video Awards and the film could easily remind someone of a flashy TV commercial It was intense It was unpredictable It is a movie I would recommend I give it a solid A- A AA A V c. c nF Nr o 4 fo bf v 4 rw t r rf f H t M f r f c fA rr r l v 3 L IL 4 5 3 wr y C Y J.
