Show t J j Releasing the Anger I and Dealing With It The Human fc i. i Side SideBy I By Diane Cashel i Director j Alcohol Drug I 1 Education fW H Jt Anger is a normal emotion caused by simple frustration or orI I situations where we feel weve we've been wronged Anger is an emoi emotional emotional emo emo- cue which reminds us what i we like and what we dont don't like Although many of us were taught as children to stifle our anger it is in fact perfectly natural Anger can have many causes but its it's effects depend on your ability to toI todeal J I I deal with it r f Many people deny or minimize minimize minimize mini mini- I mize their anger because they feel guilty or afraid of it Your angry feelings are real and deserve recognition Many times we want to deny we are angry because were we're not in the habit of admitting it or anger doesn't seem rational to us or were we're by our lack of control All humans feel anger whether or not it is c Thus expressed by denying anger you deny that you are human The first step in dealing constructively constructively constructively con con- with anger is to admit when you are angry Trying to cover it up or pretend it isn't there will only make it come out some other way and distance us from other people Dealing with your anger realistically however can be bevery bevery bevery very hard because this is where you have different choices on how to behave Here are some things you can do Dont Don't let anger or little frustrations frustrations frustrations frus frus- build up too long Talk directly with the person who may be causing you anger and frustration Be assertive Get out of the situation Sometimes its it's just not worth the frustration Talk it over with your friends family or co Just talking about it really helps By recognizing and accepting your our own anger were we're on the road to controlling it and releasing releasing releasing ing it responsibly Acknowledging what makes us angry instead of denying anger or placing blame leads to self- self understanding Once we can identify some common anger- anger making situations we can change them deal with them responsibly or make a conscious choice to ignore them We can then reap the benefits of what this emotion tells us |
