J f z n- n By Jason Moses Feature Editor Still looking for a student club to join One that will allow you to have fun and meet interesting new people while helping those in need in your community and your college Why not try the Circle K club Circle K is an international organization organization organization orga- orga with over college f. f student members They are involved in numerous projects with UNICEF on a project to eliminate eliminate 1 nate child retardation due to iodine 1 i. i C deficiency to projects right here on our own campus In fact the chapter is currently raising funds to buy a motorized wheelchair for a aI I student Circle K has also been involved in other projects such as sending a sick child to Disneyland The club could be doing even more like these right now but they need support Our club is small and needs more members says Wade Oliver the clubs advisor We lost some of our key members over spring quarter and summer due to graduation and other things Were We're currently involves in hi a membership drive to increase the clubs size Some people may be thinking that community service work sounds difficult difficult difficult dif dif- dif dif- or boring Although it can be challenging at times most people who have done it insist that the rewards are well worth it Circle K presents an opportunity for I students to experience these rewards Some of the rewards of service work include personal development and friendships These friendships with fellow workers or with those you help sometimes last a lifetime There are also opportunities for leadership leadership leadership lead lead- development career networking networking networking network network- ing and even scholarships In addition addition addition addi addi- tion service looks great greaton on an employment application telling employers that you are willing todo more than your job to get important tasks done For those who want to hear the dollars and cents of it that means better hobs and higher wages in the future Regardless of your motives for doing service work Circle K needs you You and your assistance helps to get needed work done Lori ODell president of Circle K Kat Kat Kat at says that many people dont don't understand what it means to be a member of Circle K A lot of students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents are washy about service work while others are real excited She would like to see everyone excited excited excited ed and involved in the club for more than just the service aspect of it Its not just community service she said also to have fun She also mentions mentions' the leadership ties Lori is currently choosing advisors advisors advisors sors and assistants and people joining joining joining join join- ing now would have the chance fill rill some of these positions Of course there are many students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents with families at who work full time in addition to going to school and honestly dont don't have the time tune to give to community service right now Lori says these people can help just by joining the club even if they cant can't make it to the events or meetings Membership fees help support support sup sup- support port worthwhile projects In this way most everyone can help in some way and feel like they're making their community a better place to live Some upcoming events include a halloween carnival on Oct 26 at the South City Campus from 10 am to 12 noon in which the Circle K club will be participating Plans are also being finalized for a free throw and three point shootout that is expected to be a lot of fun Meetings for the Circle K club are held every tuesday in the Senate Chamber Or for more contact Lori at hu |
