L I By Matt Baldwin Contributing Writer Theater students at will present a high spirited zany production production production tion of William Shakespeare's The f Tempest opening Wednesday Nov 15 in the Lab Theater The Tempest is being produced as part of the Play Production Course and is being presented with support from the Fine Arts and Lecture Committee who provided a grant to help with the production costs According to play director Margaret Margaret Margaret Mar Mar- garet Aoki everyone involved is extremely extremely extremely ex ex- ex- ex excited and optimistic because because because be be- cause there is such great potential in inthe inthe inthe the casty cast y Rather than having leading players we have a strong company Everyone in involved vol ved works on scenery lighting and costumes said Aoki The cast also promises to offer a wide variety of participants The production will be cast with students including the Bruin Mascot Mascot Mas Mas- cot a member of a rock band who will wiIl provide live percussion Even faculty member Tom Carroll is in the cast Also included in the cast will be a anine anine anine nine year old student from Realms of Inquiry Private School who qualifies as a Kids Campus and a mem member er of the Fine Arts and Lectures Lectures Lectures Lec Lec- tures Committee Lighting was designed by student Clint Gunder- Gunder sen This will not be a conventional conventional conventional conven conven- production of Shakespeare's classic play In fact according to Aoki those the idea Its It's not stiff its it's slapstick Aoki promises a cut down simplified comedy style version of The Tempest Shakespeare and his many fans can rest assured the play will lose no meaning or context in inthis inthis inthis this style of production A Shakespeare scholar could come in inand inand inand and not find fault We are very true to the spirit it was written in It was written for the general public said Aoki The Tempest will run Nov 18 15 at the Lab Theater at Curtain time is set for pm p.m. The production is approximately 2 hours long Tickets are for students for Faculty Staff And Alumni and for the general public |
