Show Student Forms An Intelligent Opinion Dear Editor After reading Marilee Howells May 2 letter for the Horizon I took it to heart and used my education and intelligence to form an opinion self righteous people shouldn't write to the paper and naive people shouldn't preach Marilee apparently lives in a fantasy fantasy fantasy fan fan- tasy world where an educated opinion is tantamount to saving the world I would venture to say that people dont don't care about issues they dont don't have the power to decide on The Olympics are a prime example Our legislature doesn't give a crap what any student thinks they are listening to the concerns of the business community and foremost I have seen that poor sap on television trying to get the legislature to bring a referendum vote on the Olympics and watched as our representatives fight him tooth and nail This fellow is fighting to change things to what result the rest of his life suffers and he expends lots of time and energy I suggest that when before M. M Howell berates anyone else for their apathy she should speak before a committee meeting at atthe atthe atthe the Capitol building and see how heavily her opinion weighs in their decision Have no doubt change is possible possible possible pos pos- sible but it is easier to change factors factors factors fac fac- fac- fac tors within your control such as your life than those factors that affect us all In order to change society you must have immense resources of time money and charisma and the dedication to see it to its ilc conclusion Unfortunately the effort it takes to instill lasting change is exhaustive and fraught with obstacles To say that effecting change is a amere amere amere mere exercise in forming an opinion and taking action is a pseudo intel declaration only appropriate to a not a newspaper David Vala Biology |
