Show Letters to the Editor Student Outraged at Presidents President's Invitational Art Show Dear Editor As some of you may know the Annual Salt Lake Community College College College Col Col- lege Presidents Invitational Art Show was exhibited in the Library from May 8 through May 12 Like many artists here at I was pleased when I heard there would be an art show featuring the talents of our student body I eagerly prepared a few drawings drawings drawings draw draw- ings to be displayed before my fellow fellow fellow fel fel- fel- fel low students Little did I know my art would never leave AD On May 9 I went to see how my work looked compared to that of other students It was not there not one single picture There were less than 20 pictures displayed Several that were shown were pieces by the same artists There was also several blank spaces where a picture could have been hung I went to AD to see what was up I was informed that my three sketches along with at least 20 other pieces had not been accepted into the show I was bummed when I asked to have my fi five ve dollar per picture entry fee refunded They said no no it isn't refundable I left AD with several ques ques- Why were two or three pictures pictures pictures pic pic- tures by the same artist exhibited while other artists were totally left out Why weren't there any sketches This medium was not represented represented represented rep rep- resented in the show Why did I pay fifteen dollars to have my art sit in inan inan inan an office To me an entry fee means being entered in the art show not having my work sit against the wall in an office By Presidents Invitational does that mean president Budd was involved Where did the money go Like a student told me as we walked down the hall feeling rejected and like we just got taken Next time I want to make a quick buc buck Ill I'll just charge five dollars to unsuspecting students for an entry fee to my private art show I can stick their work in my closet for 2 weeks and then tell them they didn't cut it On the of May I received a aletter aletter aletter letter with my unaccepted notices in in- in closed How can a person be unaccepted unaccepted unaccepted unac unac- and entered at the same time There was no name anywhere exactly exactly exactly ex ex- ex- ex who hosted this show The return address was planning and research Did our student fees pay the postage All in all I think this art show was totally unfair because of fees paid for work that was not shown I do wish to acknowledge the excellent excellent excellent ex ex- work of the students whose art was displayed Cindy Fletcher General Studies Major |
