Show A Retro Wedding in Style By Eric Bresee Managing Editor The year is 1985 Your parents died when you were in third grade Youre You're engaged Youre You're a singer but agents are not exactly beating a path to your doorstep What do you do You become a wedding singer That is exactly what Adam Sandler Sandier did in his new film The Wedding Singer Sandler Sandier plays Robbie Hart the former lead singer of a band named Final Warning Robbie is set to marry his girlfriend Linda Angela Featherstone Unfortunately theres there's one lem She does not show up for the wedding As Linda put it Im not in love with Robbie today Im I'm in inlove inlove inlove love with Robbie six years ago when he was the lead singer of Final Warning When Linda says she can not see herself marrying a wedding singer who is making 60 bucks a wedding Robbie tells her that is something that could have been brought to my attention yesterday Robbie sulks around his sisters sister's basement which doubles as his home several days before his next gig He turns the wedding into quite a disaster with his rendition of the Bands Band's Love Stinks He ends up in a garbage can in the back alley before Julia Sullivan Drew Barrymore an engaged waitress at the reception h hall ll Robbie works at tries to cons console le him Eventually Robbie gives up M 4 t tr s r ft i 4 gp i y ti E Et 9 t f L I IP T TI P k I t- t 1 Photo courtesy of Newline Cinema Robbie Hart Adam Sandler Sandier makes fun of Sammy Allen Covert for wearing a Michel Jackson look a like glove singing at weddings but works everything else including Bar Mitzvahs After his first Bar Mitzvah Julia asks Robbie for his help planning her wedding Robbie reluctantly agrees and they begin to plan the perfect wed wed- ding Everything is going fine for Julia and Glen Matthew Glave until Glen and Robbie spend a little time alone That's when Glen admits to cheating on Julia and plans on continuing his two-timing two ways after marriage Robbie spends the rest of the film trying to stop the marriage as ashe ashe ashe he has developed feelings for Julia Memo to Sandler Sandier fans this is not another Happy Gilmore If you go to this movie expecting another Gilmore you will be dis dis- dis- dis appointed However this is perhaps the best comedy in theaters Sandler Sandier proves he can play a toned-down toned character unlike his previous three movies movies He still delivers his trademark roars and tantrums but is rather subdued When you are not laughing at Sandler Sandier you will be laughing at the plethora of music and clothing You'll be shaking your head at how ridiculous the actors look in their wardrobe and wondering if you looked that silly when you wore that exact same outfit If you want a retro nostalgic comedic movie The Wedding Singer is a must see The Wedding Singer is rated PG 13 for language |
