Show 98 Executive Council Elections Provide Another Controversy By Eric Bresee Managing Editor For the second time in as many years controversy surrounded the Executive Council elec elec- Despite the controversy the 1998 Executive Council has been chosen Sim Aguirre Nate Ward Tara Vest Cheri Co Cook k Ali Claybaugh and Jason Stout won their respective races and will form the 99 1998 Executive Council The controversy stems from the new computer program that was used The new program increased the time it took to vote discouraging some students from voting The problem occurred frequently at the Sandy campus on the first day of voting Feb 24 With so many voters turning away one candidate called the s w D 0 G Ry 1 Redwood Campus to get permission to use a ballot When she was turned down by the Elections Committee she asked if copies of the hand ballots could be be issued to the voters instead of waiting for an open computer Once again the candidate candidate candidate can can- was turned down However moments later the candidate candidate candidate can can- received a phone call giving her approval to make the copies But no one on the Elections Committee nor any of the advisors admit to making the phone call The next day Executive Vice- Vice President John E. E met with Gordon Wilson director of student student student stu stu- stu- stu dent activities Peggy Hoffman and Jen Best advisors to make a decision decision decision deci deci- sion on what to do about the Sandy votes The group came to the decision to throw out the Sandy votes and extend the voting one more day to H.
