Show Home Grown Lunch with Guitarist Dave Hahn By Richard Staff Writer Have you ever noticed the new stage in the South Cafeteria On Jan 12 local musician Dave Hahn brought that little corner stage out of obscurity as he entertained a lively lunch crowd with his unique brand of music Hahn is a well known attraction in Park City where here his music sets the mood in places such as Grub Steak Restaurant and Mooses Moose's Pub and Grill He has made an appearance appearance appearance appear appear- ance at our very own South Campus Cafeteria and in Salt Lake Hahn often refers to himself as a chameleon due to his wide range of vocal and guitar style In addition to his original music he covers songs by other artists like Cat Stevens and Paul Simon He admits they are the primary influence in his music At Atone Atone Atone one time a fan told him they thought Cat Stevens was singing Though his style is a fusion of rock country blues and fol folk 4 he generally classifies his music as as middle of the road adult contemporary Though a Chicago native Hahn has been a long time Utah resident His musical talents manifested at an early age He taught himself guitar at the age of eight and by 15 he was an accomplished guitarist He has never had professional voice training training training train train- ing and he does not need to He sings his original compositions with raw emotion All of his songs are t s Y n i hi s 4 1 tk 4 p. p y 5 i fj UZ U Z ZW W Th fJ 7 Photo courtesy of David Hahn sings at one of his recent concerts reflections of personal experiences and his rugged country voice clearly tells his story Currently Hahn released his new CD self titled Dave Hahn Future plans include a national tour of colleges colleges colleges col col- col- col leges where he hopes to get more exposure through CD sales and live performances When asked why he targeted the college crowd Hahn was quick to point out college students have a amore amore amore more eclectic taste in music Other demographics are hard to crack but buthe buthe buthe he finds college students have wider tastes in music He hopes to become a part of the mainstay that makes up their CD libraries He also prefers the college scene because he considers it a in built market The facilities and networks are already established but most important the audience These factors make the logical choice for budding artists to begin He attributes the success of recording recording recording record record- ing artist Shawn Colvin to her humble humble humble hum hum- ble beginning on the college circuit where she built a loyal following before being signed on by a major label So just how receptive was the theau au audience to Hahn Great sound ld Matt Bergstrom said It was James Taylor all over again Jamie Parker liked it because he plays good happy tunes that brings some life into the Cafeteria Debbi Andrus who loves Hahns Hahn's music because he plays guitar I play guitar so Im I'm biased He also plays awesome music Dave Hahn released a previous CD entitled Home Grown |
