Show Student researches student council counci Dear Editor M- M MY M Y main goal is to show the students here what it is that the student council does as leaders of our school Every year around this time there is a commotion about the new student body coun coun- dl cil This excitement instantly takes me back to my high school days when I would vote for the new council there But one memory was not so great I remember the time I overheard a conversation in inthe inthe inthe the hall between some student student student stu stu- stu- stu dent council members and a friend who had just come out of the student council room where all the big decisions were made The conversation went somewhat like this Hi guys what did you do in the meeting today As they laughed one spoke up loudly and said Nothing at all We just sat around and talked to waste time again like we normally normally normally nor nor- mally do until the period is over t tI I know that this might be bea a bit critical and not be a fair comparison to the many of to 4 those who might have done something positive and con con- However I asked the question of those who recently ran for office I am here to study and better my life and I already think the school is great But Butas Butas Butas as a married time full-time student student student stu stu- dent who works time full-time what could these people possibly possibly possibly pos pos- sibly do for me and my classmates Here is a list that presents some of the goals of the new student body council 1 To see that all degrees earned at transfer to all other colleges here in the state In this way an student will have a degree that will be transferable to the college of their choice 2 To unify all campuses campuses campuses cam cam- by bringing in the same equipment for all campuses campuses campuses cam cam- of which there are currently currently currently cur cur- five 3 To bring more awareness awareness awareness aware aware- ness of the school programs that are currently being offered offered offered of of- such as AA stress relief peer pressure groups concurrent enrollment and GED and the Ford Asset program 4 To make students aware of the activities and tickets offered to students at little or orno orno orno no cost such as dinner theater Hogle Zoo Hansen Planetarium movies dances etc 5 To develop an alumni program to help bring in the interest of past students and their money to better the col col- col- col lege 6 To oversee all college clubs with a current list of 30 clubs Every student pays 75 dollars per quarter that goes to the student council for their activities and programs The Student Activities office is just north of the book bookstore bookstore bookstore store so if you have a problem problem problem lem complaint or idea for the college or an activity stop by and let them know Robert Hancock Editors Editor's note Each quarter f full full- ll- ll time students pay 78 dollars dolla s apiece in student fees Of M this th is dollars 78 dollars only eight allocated to the Executive Executive Executive student aCtivities activities activities ac aC- ac- ac tive Council for and programs |
