| Show Financial help js on the way an an interim loan has been established Katherine Catherine Faber Staff Writer HE Student Senate Interim Interim Inter- Inter T THE 1 im Funding Loan will be provided for those students who are waiting to receive their finan financial al aid checks According to Senator Jennifer Jennifer Jennifer Jen Jen- Johnson the proposed loan was approved by Executive Executive Executive tive Council The loan is based on the Murray Rotary Fund which is only available to continuing students However However However How How- ever this new loan will be available for continuing new and international students students' We had many students coming coming coming com com- ing to us that weren't receiving receiving receiving ing their financial aid checks on time said Johnson The loan is available for all students including international international international inter inter- national students who cannot cannot cannot can can- not work in the United States because they are on visas The international students can use this loan while waiting waiting waiting wait wait- ing to receive money from home In order to get the loan residents and international students need a US U.S. cosigner will be available each quarter for about 24 students When the student has received her financial aid check she will reimburse the interim loan The student will pay back the loan plus a 10 handling fee each quarter This fee will then be added to the next quarters quarter's for a total of available the following quarter Receiving financial aid has been a burden for many including including including in in- student Rick- Rick Powell Something messed up and they held my check I had to borrow money from my mom to buy my books while waiting for forthe forthe forthe the check The checks are eventually received by students students students stu stu- dents but until they are arc students students students stu stu- stu- stu dents need to borrow the money from som somewhere Powell did receive her check three days into the quarter Another student Jim Starbuck said They lost my paperwork It was a week before school started when they located it In order to keep his classes he had to pay his tuition and books out of his own pocket Johnson said the loan will have the same title until a sponsor is found either by a small business within the community or student government Johnson said the loan should be in effect by fall quarter 1990 |
