Show Disagrees with priority Dear Editor The misguided prioritization which places athletics at the forefront of life in academia is a sorry reflection of society's palliate emphasis toward the betterment of self A preoccupation tion with sports is a indicative of a need for vicarious involvement involvement involvement involve involve- ment through the players of a game whose relevance to humanity or history is nil To those who would select a school based on athletic achievement only the pursuit of an education education education tion is secondary to the pursuit of a social life There is a glimmer of hope in the Capital Facilities Request Request Request Re Re- quest list of priorities which places the construction of a new gym third on its list of needed developments at the Redwood Campus Horizon supports plans for a larger gym Feb 21 1989 The tone of the Horizon article betrays a bias in spite of L Lan an implied neutrality with regard to Horizons Horizon's stand on the issue As long as were we're applying the supply demand theory to sports students demanding a bigger gym have already been supplied with a regulation size court at the South High School facility Funding of a new library should be our top priority The f anticipate growing pains alluded to by the Horizon will only be aggravated by a library which is already 90 percent too small for the present population While I am opposed to the complete elimination if f f college college college col col- col- col lege athletics I would urge students to consider the real eal reason why they are here 1 Signed David E.
