Show Robert Plant returns to Saltair Dave Hansen Arts Entertainment Editor SALT Lake I was here five years ago I was here before then and before that and the time before that and again before that and I like this place Saltair the best bestOne bestOne One of bf rock n n rolls roll's greatest performers may seem to have hav a strange choice of venue to some Although Although Although Al Al- though unique and somewhat pretty at sunset Saltair is a bit small and musty smelling at best for fora a concert But and this is an extremely large but for the performance of off f former Led Zeppelin leader Robert Plant the trip to the salty resort was more than worth it Plant not only has the weathered charisma and standing image of being an icon in rock history but buthis buthis buthis his stage performance after all the years between Led Zeppelin and his sixth and most recent solo album Fate of Nations sounded as great as the old Zeppelin recordings Plant performed both old songs and new on Friday Oct 1 with pure putt Zeppelin sound this time with witha a younger and just as potentially tal talented band of musicians Plant opened hi his two hour show with the big single Tall Cool One from the Now anti and Zen album bum which had the standing general general general gen gen- eral admission crowd swaying and jumping He immedi immediately went back to the old days with an incredible incredible incredible in in- credible performance of Ramble On which had every person chanting along 29 Palms from Fate of Nations was greeted appreciatively appreciatively appreciatively ap ap- ap- ap with singing from the crowd as well and was performed with the precision that only Plant can create His vocals throughout the show proved to send the crowd in a pleased frenzy response as he wailed and moaned and screamed like the days of Led A parti particular ular song worthy of praise was the acoustic favorite from the Led Zeppelin Four album Going to California which was worth the trip in itself Psychedelic echoing guitar and vocals throughout through through- out the show made for one to think he or she was was watching and hearing hearing hearing hear hear- ing a Zeppelin show Plant also pleased goers concert with f favorites like In the Mood S Ship p of Fools If I Were A Carpenter Carpenter Carpenter Car Car- penter Hurting Kind and I Believe Be Be- lieve Over all Plant put on a show to please all who attended young and old The more modem songs were performed cleanly with their own style and the older Zeppelin songs were done justice with the way Robert and his band recreated them to keep them as immortal as his image |
