Show College Center On Projected Budget by SP Van Horn The College Center is right on its projected 6 million budget and is slightly ahead of its schedule to be finished The due date for completion has been planned for June of 1988 but it may be done as early as the first part of May of that year Meanwhile the landscaping which has just started is expected to be completed by Thanksgiving of this year Student fees are paying for the cost of the building and Curtis Smout the College Center Director said students will be paying for it for the next 20 years There is no way the building can go over budget 6 million is all there is and we may have to cut something out if that isn't enough Smout added The original structure was built in 1973 for 18 million and was planned to accommodate 2600 students The new center will accommodate students to better serve the campus' campus new role as a community college It will have more office space and meeting rooms more room for food services a larg larger r bookstore and expanded study lounge areas The central sunken lounge behind the information booth is also being remodeled and will have a skylight to allow light to stream down past the upper floors The student council offices will be moved into the area where the registration offices now reside The registration offices will be moved to the second floorA floor A A- Afew few problems have arisen since the start of construction One problem was that the building was accidentally built three inches out of square making it a trapezoid instead of a true rectangle You wouldn't be able to tell by looking at it commented Smout but it made quite a problem when we attempted to put in the structured steel beams In several instances time was lost because supplies were not delivered on time We would've been able to complete the center even earlier if it had not been for those delays Smout added r jN Jr r. r F izi 1 c c CE wf r r tS J i yr Y a f v i M iAl It n P 21 r ArF y SiV r v r i A J Front view of College Center 0 f 0 r J.
