Show Hunters are finding it hard to get their deer Dan North Contributing Writer TH ITH the 1992 proclamation out and the hunting hunting hunt hunt- W WITH Wing ing season coming up fast deer hunters are getting that familiar queasy feeling in their stomachs Will the deer hunters of the get their dream buck or will they just be wasting their money on a worthless hunt Russ Abney a hunter education instructor at the Division of Wildlife Resources feels that the number of deer in Utah is declining All An of my life I have had great success at deer hunting until this past year said Abney I I dont don't even know if I want to spend the money and the time on this years year's hunt A deer hunting big game permit costs 15 this year A limited entry buck permit costs an extra 23 an deer permit is 13 and a bull elk permit is 53 These are but a few of the possible hunts to pay money for Why should a hunter try to buy one or all of these permits permits permits per per- mits It seems like if you want to get your deer or elk you need to either go on private property or get a restricted area permit said Abney regular season hunt just isn't doing the job any more What are some solutions to this problem Should the Utah Division of Wildlife not give out so many hunting permits each year Should they cut hunting season into a once in a two year ordeal Timothy Provan the director of Wildlife Resources said Next year we are going to a choose your hunt type hunt That means you can only go on one hunt instead of three You can either hunt the bow hunt the regular deer hunt or the black powder hunt According to Provan this new style hunting season will cut down the number of normal season deer hunters which will increase increase increase in in- crease the deer population |
