| Show Instructor wins gold in cosmetology competition Ed Lile Staff Writer SALT Lake Community College cosmetology ogy instructor Grace Birch won first place during the Utah Cosmetology Association Annual Annual Annual An An- nual Trend Release and and Competition at the downtown Quality Inn Competing with 14 hair designers in the professional division Birch finished with out out- of a possible points in the High Fashion category category category-as as a result she won the gold medal She said the professional division of competition was open to to any licensed cosmetologist in Utah Birch stated that in the student division the cosmetology students took honors in three categories High categories High Fashion Ladies' Ladies Cut and nd Style and Mens Men's Cut and Style with top honors going to Teri Hegemann second Hegemann-second second place in High Fashion first place in Ladies Cut and Style and fourth place in Mens Men's Cut and Style Natalie Sylvester Sylveste Kellee Jensen and Kit Nelson Nelson Nelson Nel Nel- son also placed in their categories Other participants were Brenda Gore Janet Parker and Sue Butcher Birch said there were approximately contestants in all categories The liThe professional competition offers the competitor a chance to show talents and a challenge to learn new styles and to improve quality styling Birch said The liThe students really learn from the competition along with having the opportunity to gain some notoriety and at the sa same e time increase their job potential j A.
