| Show c r t f rn u JOo JO- JO P How d do o we con control AIDS t ro I AI DS f i r 1 Dear Editor Require chastity belts for all unmarried women segregate schools by gender or perhaps jail flirty men and women Do you consider these possible solutions for stopping the spread of the AIDS virus Hopefully not These solutions are almost as realistic as expecting abstinence to stop the spread According to the 1990 Health Education Authority study of 70 of the year olds studied have had penetrative sex and one fifth have had 2 or more partners during the previous year Yet many individuals still do not regard 1 safe sex as being important in their lives Twenty percent of those surveyed would still continue to have unprotected sex More than 1 in 10 people studied have had unprotected sex on at least one occasion Yet condom is still stilla a taboo word in our public schools It is sad to hear AIDS referred to as a gay aI disease or that God is punishing those people who dont don't live up to his standards Yet one out of every 61 infants born in New York City is isan isan isan an HIV mv carrier Abstaining from sex until marriage and monogamy throughout the marriage is the best answer to the problem if your spouse has done the same However this message is not being heard by a lot of the American public Educating youth about sex is a scary thing but it see seems s to be the only solution to stop the spread of the fatal disease Stephani Thomas |
