I Sensitive alumni speaks out I Dear Editor Several days ago I had the opportunity to read through a copy of the Horizon Vol 91 92 No S 5 and found many of the articles very well written and informative As a former executive officer of the I am aware of the time and effort that goes into putting out a publication of this nature and andI I would like to commend your staff on a job well done However I do have one complaint about the cartoons that are included among the articles While most are comical and humorous I see no humor in a cartoon or any other publication in which groups of people are ate referred to as blacks dames or white guys I would think that in an institution institution institution tion where many nationalities of both sexes are attending and in a society where r racial dal slurs are a very sensitive issue the Horizon should be a little more discreet and sensitive to the people it represents I realize that this is only one cartoon in a single issue of the Horizon that I have read in inthe inthe inthe the last two or more years and that perhaps it was just an oversight that su such h a tactless ss attempt at humor was allowed to be published publish publish- ed but I just wanted to express my concerns as an alumna of Salt Lake Community Col Col- lege I wish you luck luckin in the upcoming year and look forward to being informed of events and issues at Salt Lake Community College through future p publications of Horizon Mary MaryAnn Ann Mor fin Falk y f b |
