P P r Articles of a practical nature on ona ona a weekly basis L Diane Dianne Cashel Columnist IRE I HE E Human Side is a new specialized column sponsored by three 1 l campus programs Alcohol and Drug Education Turning Point Program Program Program Pro Pro- gram for Single Parents-Displaced Parents Homemakers and the College Health Center This special column will contain articles of a practical nature which are ate intended to increase consciousness on a variety of issues and improve our capacities We are particularly interested in your reactions to this column we encourage your comments about individual articles and your suggestions of issues you think need further attention This week we introduce the programs involved in the Human Side The services provided by each program are free to students faculty and staff Y College Health Center Director Connie Dillin Physician Certified Assistant-Certified 9 am a.m. 1 pm p.m. lower level The Health Center has been established to improve the quality of student life on campus In addition to treating current illness and injuries preventive health maintenance and education is stressed Services include blood pressure monitoring treatment of minor to moderate injuries emergency treatment stabilization nutritional nutrition nutrition- al weight counseling loss supervision health education and community referrals Turning Point Program for Single Parents Displaced Homemakers Director Bernadette Martinez-Astorga Martinez CC The Turning Point Program serves single parents and displaced homemakers throughout Salt Lake and Tooele counties Services include information and referrals regarding training employment financial aid and community resources Classes and workshops are offered every quarter in career exploration job hunting communication tion skills and personal growth Counseling is available to assist with life transitions and directions assessment of aptitudes skills skill and anda vocational interests An on-going on support group grou of single singh parents COPE meets every week Alcohol and Drug Education Director Diane Cashel CC This offices provides information information information mation education and programs to enhance awareness concerning al alcohol alcohol alcohol al- al cohol and drug prevention Intervention efforts consist of workshops speakers speaker's bureau assessment referrals to campus and community agencies and involvement with support groups such as AA and others The program is a resource to students faculty and staff concerning alcohol and other drug related issues The Peer Support Team is located at a table in the main lobby of the College Center between the hours of 10 a.m. l pm p.m. weekdays for individuals needing assistance Human Side has a vital role to play in identifying the hardships caused by stresses in our everyday lives but more importantly in promoting promoting promoting ing health and the attainment of our collective objective the objective the education of students faculty and staff We hope the articles written for the Human Side will contribute to these important goals r |
