| Show Bus vs car Daphne Draper Contributing Writer WE have adequate bus service to the campus At present about students are enrolled and enrollment enrollment enrollment enroll enroll- ment has been increasing steadily each quarter since I began my studies here With increased enrollment classes are held throughout the day whereas previously they were held mainly in the morning and in the evening Bus service through the campus is on a thirty minute turn-around turn for 39 west east-west South and a thirty minute turn-around turn for 40 west east-west South The buses that travel north and south on either side of the campus are scheduled at best every hour Route 41 West Jordan that travels along the west side of the campus on 2200 West is scheduled every hour until the afternoon when it is about an hour and six minutes difference The Bluffdale bus 43 on Redwood Road is worse In the afternoon afternoon afternoon after after- noon the difference is an hour and twelve minutes Another disadvantage is that the time schedules do not correlate with the class schedules By taking a bus from West Jordan a student will arrive five minutes late for class or five fifty-five minutes early A Bluffdale bus is better in the morning but some time schedules still get a student to toh c h 1 after r the t-h t rl class CC hac has started Ct rt rf UI I II UJ J j U u. Students have also about the west east-west service service service ser ser- ser ser- vice when returning home on the South bus It leaves the campus one minute after the hour which means that a student either leaves class early or waits for a half hour In the afternoon Bluffdale has been notoriously late arriving as much as 25 20 minutes after the scheduled time tim e. e To catch the West Jordan bus southbound after classes a student sometimes has less than fifteen minutes to gather belongings come from various buildings around the campus campus campus cam cam- pus sometimes from upper floors and walk the three or four blocks to the bus stop Some buses on that route come early so students have missed their scheduled bus The advantages of taking the bus are just as great Depending on which bus a student rides there is less of a walk to classes than if the student drives Parking is an issue that has been debated continuously By riding the thebus thebus thebus bus there is never a worry about parking tickets or finding a parking space A major advantage is that a student can read lesson material while leaving the driving to someone else The cost of a student bus pass is minimal compared to the cost of gas and maintenance of a private vehicle |
