| Show Campus Police Trying to Do Their Best and Improve the System by Richard Smart Many students and faculty at dont don't know what the campus police do and how they function The campus police department which has been at for approximately five years is continually trying to enforce the laws and regulations that exist here on the campus according to Lou Hulett a police officer for Many students and faculty think all we do is issue parking tickets Even though we think this is important we have many other duties Some of the duties include reporting crimes and statistics to the department on campus of the Bureau of Criminal Identification and also to the Federal Bureau of Investigations Investigations Investigations providing escorts administration work vehicle maintenance maintenance maintenance nance following up on all criminal activity that is reported assisting motorists with car problems spending time in court and doing up follow-up work on bad checks Lou Hulett also said that the state law requires them to take action if there is evidence that a crime has been committed The officers work with the faculty in solving problems within the school The campus police officers are considered state police officers not security guards The state law requires campus police to attend the state Police Academy within eighteen months after being hired After graduation they become state police officers They are also required to attend forty hours of Peace Officer Standards and Training Classes every year to retain certification The campus police department is trying to do their very best to enforce the laws and ordinances here at We Ve are trying to improve the whole department in order to help students and faculty more effectively at Lou Hulett said T.
