| Show 7 UTe Students Ripped Off I should like to direct my remarks remarks remarks re re- re- re marks to the students of a ripped off body politic that at this point has no unified say on issues pertaining to their own affairs af af- af- af fairs I feel we are losing and losing to our own inability to get it on together and effectively stop this trend If you do in fact get to read this it will be the second time for forthe forthe forthe the 77 76 school year that there has been a paper published for forthe forthe forthe the students Right On A student student student stu stu- stu- stu dent newspaper maybe this school is something more than a glorified high school Ah but alas not so Auto mechanics are isolated from barbering barbering barbering bar- bar bering ladies who are isolated from electronic technicians who never see secretaries who are still wondering what construction construction construction tion it is youre you're trade-ing trade etc Get my drift Your newspaper this year has been a nonexistent ineffective rag that has not been utilized at all and has therefore therefore therefore there there- fore caused the interaction of and voice of the student body to tobe tobe tobe be nonexistent Everything for forthe forthe forthe the students here it seems is nonexistent What is this Some people tend to analyze the problem problem problem lem here at as being one of apathy Yet everyone I talk to wants to be asked has a lot to say and seems to have valuable ideas Apathy I think not I think this is student body as a unified unified unified un un- un- un whole can be a very loud and effective voice in their own affairs on this campus but not when we are being ripped off and effectively stifled Ripped off What rip off Well possibly the instance of the last Executive Vice President quitting quitting quitting quit quit- ting his job cashing in on the good times but not executing his responsibilities and duties and leaving the whole load to the president He has my deepest disrespect and heartiest non- non thanks As president of the Senate Senate Senate Sen Sen- ate he blew it And the Senate our student senate a total political joke At this point we cant can't even seem to muster the required amount of your Senate representatives together together to to- together gether to act on a bill before them that would create the they editorship editorship editorship ed ed- ed- ed of Points West your paper incidentally as a separate job from mine and therefore allow for a more effective use of our funds in the production of your voice A feisty pie in the eye to our illustrious Senate Thanks for your in-attentiveness in and non-attendance non to your duties And of course here it is our STUDENT RAG Where has it been all year when we needed it and could have used it The Board of Regents issue the entertainment entertainment entertainment en en- problem or for the elections again where are our elected officers who we were expecting expecting expecting ex ex- ex- ex to work for us Did they do anything besides pacify the administration and faculty and w wear ear pretty suits around and look official If it were up to me they would right now be required to justify their use of student funds right down to the penny This This' last election we the candidates candidates candidates can can- were asked to write a statement on our feelings and aspirations for the office we were running for So we did right down to the last candidate The purpose for these articles we w were re told was for a paper which was promised to be before th the elections There was no pa pa- per You as a political body were ripped off this year in first class style All the presidents president's I personally challenge challenge challenge chal chal- lenge you individually to protest protest pro pro- protest test this atrocity before this year ends If you feel as cheated and burned as I do then let yourself be heard There is a college center center center cen cen- ter here just for that purpose the service of you Its It's high time you got off your dead assets and got over here and got served Find out just how much you you were were deceived and see what and how much you can do about it Lay on ona ona ona a little pressure just like you did to the State Senate with regards to the governance issue Im I'm one student who got pissed off I began slinging crap where it needed to be slung and I got into this and got involved in my own welfare here and I was challenged challenged challenged chal chal- to put up or shut up so here I am I ran for and ended up with this wreck of a publications publication's office that my predecessor left me and still that was not enough When the election issue of the paper did not show it was the straw that broke etc So I went to the Executive Council meeting meeting meeting meet meet- ing with a proposal to do you at least one paper this year independent independent independent inde inde- pendent of my predecessor I 1 obviously acquired the right The point of all this is if one angry longhair can do this much in a month look where we could go together Hell some of you out there are even responsible look at the weight you could throw So I offer you a chance now I offer you the voice you never had all year and next year the same voice will be offered If you dont don't use this if you dont don't at least get semi-involved semi dont don't be surprised to see this and other similar opportunities opportunities opportunities op op- op- op fade away You see someone has has has' hasto to perform th these se duties over here That's the way it is and if students dont don't do it then administrators do and that thatis is unfair How in the hell are they supposed to know what you want I will need help Help Help Help effort dedication and responsibility We have th the machine here for a paper Therefore Therefore Therefore There There- fore as long as I serve you as VP V.P. of Publications there will be one even if I write them single- single handedly The amusing thing will be the intellectuals who will criticize content and style etc of the paper and yet I ran for this
