Show DEX DE X Egg E gg Drop A Great Boost For MBA by fay Tomlin The first annual DEX EGG DROP took place January l 15 at Utah Technical College at Salt Lake resulting in a s success story The main objectives for this event event- were to raise money for Muscular ar Dystrophy and to conduct a civic awareness project forstate for forstate forstate state and national c competition as aswell aswell aswell well as to promote unity ty among DEX members faculty staff and administration and the community These objectives were superbly met Many committees were organized by e event ent coordinators Stacy Draney Rick Walker and Jay Tomlin with DEX members working hard hardon on the committees The promotion committee and CAB cosponsored a dance in th the cafeteria with disc jockey Michael Patience When the celebrity celebrity celebrity cele cele- brity Humpty wasn't the dance he was passing out decorated hard boiled eggs and arid flyers to the people around the campus campus- L r. r v. v i v j. j L r j 5 i. i The ii rules niles coI committee mitte- mitte ser the specifications fi cat for th the size of the packaging g of the eggs as well as s the rest of f. f the contest rules Another committee involved was the Prize Committee All egg entrants received a free foot long sandwich from Subway Sandwiches and the main prizes were a one year tuition waiver for 88 1987 two 1987 Spring quarter tuition waivers Copper Room tickets ski passes 1st Run Video memberships hockey tickets and many many more During the event Harmons provided doughnuts and soft drinks were provided by the Seven Up Co With winds gusting up to mph on y f 1 s V Vs I b br Y r l fi fit fil m H t f.- f. P Gary Wilkey and Student Pres Randy Foote top of the Technology Building the event was almost cancelled With a a. a safety harness tied around the official egg dropper dropp Gary Wilkey th the ok came to drop the eggs Many excited participants and on-lookers on braved the cold wind and snow to watch the eggs tumble from the sky hoping that their egg survived A A. A total of sixty of-sixty sixty packaged eggs were entered and thirty-four thirty survived the fall According to judges Randy andy Foote president Gary Wilkey executive vice president and Jerry student activities coordinator the materials used to package the eggs ranged from Styrofoam peanuts a spring-like spring structure made out of metal screening a parac parachute ute a cardboard I box Ox with a rubber chicken inside filled with chic chicken en noodle soup and jello supporting the egg the ideas were very unique Our goal was to raise 1000 for Muscular lar Dystrophy however r with the help of many people we ed q our g goal goaland ta and r raised i l of L 1150 i mI- mI t iV i-iV 7 r- r The The one year year tuition waiver was wa vlon won by Rosemary Valencia The Spring quarter tuition waivers waivers' were ere won by Stephen Ryther and Lis Lisa Nelson Madalyn Dixon won a 2500 gift certificate for the most creative egg Her egg was decorated with circus animals propellers and circus wagons to look like a merry go The rest of the surviving eggs were awarded a prize The EGG DROP was fun and for everyone involved it was successful above expectations Everyone who helped or participated in the EGG DROP should be given a BIG BIG THANK YOU FOR A JOB WELL DONE gc i r i A AS S r b a or a 4 I v W 61 9 i N NR R x wp t L f r 6 J.
