Show Dedication Of Business Building To Begin Begin- New r Growth In Business mum Education T The 3 million minion square foot Business building was formally dedicated Oct 4 The building was officially opened open d for business after 11 long years of planning Approximately people attended the ceremony Mike ke Homer Dean of the College of Business presided over the dedication He said that the business building was designed especially for business students T Technology ch changes r rapidly and we are keeping up p by offering the state-of-the-art equipment and instruction Homer said that the College of Business has 3 students with 19 programs He stressed This building is for the stude students ts Students are most important and he pledged to do whatever it takes to please them Goy Governor rno Norman orman H. H Bangerter keynote speaker said that every aspect of education educatIon is important He added adde that the progress made in the last thirty-five thirty years since he attended college will be prophetic of the next 35 years In speaking g of the quality of education offered at Bangerter said One Oneo o of the the most glorious things about our state is the e opportunity we provIde provide our bur citizens of all ages and backgrounds to become educated productive members of our work force It is his desire Jo to o invest vest the States State's resources in the finest buildings available He looks to the students to seize the opportunities afforded them because the work done at this college ge ties in with his dream for economic development for the state of Utah Jf Governor Bang Bangerter and and T ech P res id r O Ll c Carnahan 5 i i cutting the dedicatory pair f ss rs made by stude by-stude students i s sin in Metal Trades Carnahan commented Carnahan-commented commented on beginning of the first business schools following the industrial revolution in the he continued began Business classes in 1948 Reviews by the advisory committee have helped keep pace with the community's educational demands Carnahan stated that 42 percent of the students enrolled at the college are business majors He continued Phase I I is already full and bulging We need phase II badly Carnahan added that the college belongs to the community and the students who in turn assist the college in moving from the industrial age into the ever- ever changing communications field State Senator William T. T Barton spoke about his studies in Architectural Drafting in 1954 at saying I feel this school has grown with me It has been gratifying to to work with the college in broadening technical education Statistically 75 percent of the available jobs do not require a year four-year degree is popular because it offers what is needed He said that third one-third of the students are learning basic skills Another third are gaining better skills in their existing jobs and the remaining third are being retrained He said the new building is equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities and hopes that they can always keep pace with the community's needs He added quality education is a priority in ill Utah Sue Marie Young representing the Board of Regents said that the faculty and students would breathe the breath of life into the building She charged the faculty with making a new commitment with students to have a one-on one one relationship with each of them She charged the students to become entrepreneurs urs We owe a debt to Utah todo to todo do the very best job we can President Gary L.
