Carnahan described the College Senate as being representative representative representative to all segments of the college community Yet students do not presently have representation The College Senate Constitution states that the purpose of the college senate is to assist the college in achieving its objectives by studying problems identifying d solutions reaching consensus and recommending ending actions These words sound good on paper but in the March 25 meeting of the College Senate when a motion was made to include a representative for students there was reluctance to grant students their representation In a statement of Carnahan states that he wants the College of the and serving as the college Senate to be a g group representing every segment grass roots governing body The students are a large segment of the college Without the the College Senate and everyone it represents would be out of work If the College Senate is the grass ro roots ts governing body and students dont don't have any representation this schools school's government is set up like any non- non representative government After being presented with this issuer issue the College Senate realized they could no longer get away with this atrocity without stirring up some dust In trying to save face the College Senate decided to have a special election in the upcoming May 2 meeting Why do they have to vote on it t Students already have havethe havethe havethe the right to representation In the Student Code Section 26 under the Bill of Rights it states It is the intention of this college that students should be represented on campus committees councils commissions and other formally constituted bod bodies es that make policy decisions affecting students or ill that govern student activities and conduct I Letting the College Senate vote on this iss issue e- e es is s not only violating our rights but is adding insult to injury |
