Show Early Childhood Program to be offered at by J. J Beatty Journalism An early childhood program m is in the works at According to Elaine Christensen of preschool a survey has been sent to high school and day care centers asking if they would be interested in a two year program to train day care attendants After all the responses are in statistics will be tabulated and a proposal will be submitted The results so far seem to be encouraging About 50 percent of the surveys that have been returned say that they would be interested in such a program The projected starting time for the Early Childhood Program is for fall 1985 The proposal will be submitted to Ann Erickson Dean of General Education and Technology She will make any needed changes and work up a budget said Christensen Then approval from other administrators Utah Institutional Council and the Utah State Board of Regents is re re- re- re This program would be offered as an AS or AAS degree It is modeled after the program now available at Provo so that the credits will be transfer transferable ble The goal of the program is to up-grade up the quality of preschool teachers stated Christensen At this time most day care workers have only a high school education After finishing After finishing two years a student would be qualified qualified to teach in in a preschool day care center in the program or direct a child care center preschool would be used as a lab Students would start as aides or helpers in in their first year Their second year they would be given more responsibility responsibility re re- re- re for planning activities and setting curriculum in the classes Then they can go out and teach or transfer to a university for a four degree year n. n W Its |
