Show With All That White Stuff on the Ground Local Ski Resorts Plan Future Expansion r S by Daniel Weir J d Journalism Area Are ski reso resorts ts have h had d a rec record rd year so far with many lo local al res resorts planning expansion for the 85 84 ski season Alta had of snow snow fall in Nov and in Dec making the wettest two months on record As of Jan 27 they had re received inches of snow which is 85 percent of the total for the entire year S Although all local resorts are running far ahead of their normal snow 5 depths Park City has already received over percent of its annual snow fall Packy Longfellow marketing director of Park City said Any snow that we get for the rest of the year will just be icing on the cake Park City was able to have all of its lifts in operation on Nov 24 which is the earliest total opener for that resort Deer Valley has two new lifts planned for next year The Mayflower will be bea a foot long 1400 foot rise lift to the east of Sulton Deer De r Valleys Valley's marketing director Russ told Points West that the S si trails of an all lla open i l l l The second new lift Clipper will ascend Bait Eagle Mt from both sides Skiers will be able to ride Clipper from the Snow Park lodge to the Silver Lake lodge or visa versa Park City will have a very unusual lift next season Their town lift will carry skiers from the base of main street over Park Avenue A venue and up the hill over a residential area Finally the lift will carry skiers to the angle station of the Gondola where they will be able to enter the trail system Brighton plans to extend the reach of its Mt side next year As of 11 yet unnamed the new lift will give the ski resort a higher top elevation From the top of the mile long lift skiers of all abilities will view a panorama of Big Cottonwood and Heber V Valleys alleys Park West has contemplated construction of the sound of music chairlift between Short Swing and Iron Horse lifts When built it will raise the total footage of the ski resort by reaching farther up the mountain towards Millcreek Canyon lodge for some time and it will be Brighton Br has been constructing a new J ready for skiers use this week Village Phase I at Park City brought in an ice skating rink a stall parking terrace extended extend d lodging and many shops and restaurants Phase II will bring more expansions in the same areas Longfellow also hinted that hat the considering Park City as future sites for Sheraton Hiatt or Hilton are expansion Alta will get a new look when Powder Ridge adds new overnight lodging and condominiums Powder Ridge will be located at the foot of the Westward Ho Horun run condos when they are completed at Big Cottonwood will have its first Solitude I Snowbird will double its overnight accommodations when the Twin Peaks Lodge is completed in 1987 Its location will be up the hill on the theother other side of the Cliff Lodge With the price of a ski pass costing as high as 25 the average student skier r may find it hard to afford to ski There are however days and times when one oe can ski for less Season passes are available in the early fall for a substantial discount Snow Bird Solitude Brighton Park City Deer Valley and Park West all offer discounts for season passes Single day discount p passes are also sold on a daily basis at the College Center Par Park West and Snowbird passes are available there Big Cottonwood Canyon offers special prices on different days At Solitude everyone can ski for 5 on Tuesday university students ca can ski for 6 Thursday Thursday Thurs Thurs- ladies ladles day Monday Y f for l' l R with day is ladies day for 6 Brighton has a full agenda 5 A learn to ski night which includes a lift pass and lessons lesso s for 10 lO is Thursday is University day for o J available Ladies night is Wednesday for 4 and cross-country cross night skiing for 4 Mens night is Saturday for 4 |
