Show I j V f v f. f 1 Letters 31 Editorials I Dear Editor Concerning Robert Williams comments comments com corn ments in last weeks letter to the editor berating us for not voting for forthe the referendum we would like tor to tomake tomake r make some som comments Yes the election was a farce but not for the reasons Mr Williams stated It was obviously engineered from above There was no material circulated or published comparing r the two forms of government and giving the students a basis for an informed decision There was however however how how- t ever one sided propaganda and pressure pressure pressure pres pres- sure on the faculty to encourage students students students stu stu- dents to vote YES for the new form of government Someone was counting on the ignorance and apathy of students students students stu stu- dents but th the plan backfired The referendum did not get the two thirds affirmative v vote required by the Con Con- We think it is a cr credit dit to the students that they were not hoodwinked hoodwinked hoodwinked hood hood- winked by this brand of chicanery Mr r. r Williams letter makes too many assumptions and leads us to believe that he has been brainwashed Because Because Because Be Be- cause one form of government has been unsuccessful it does not logically logical y follow that a new set of of rules will mira lo sly solve the basic pro pro- pro We feel that the present system can be made to work through a change of attitude and stronger l leadership We hope that Mr Williams can find the courage to do his own thinking based on facts and understand the implications involved when those who have the power would use it to blatantly blatantly bla bla- insult our intelligence Lauri Guiver John C. C Belk Chuck Marshell Dear Editor I would like to address a problem that affects the safety of those who ride the bus to school People that catch a bus on the east side of Redwood Redwood Red Red- wood Road have to dodge cars and trucks to get across the street There is no way to safely cross I have even seen blind students try to get across the street with no crossing crossing crossing cross cross- ing and Ill I'll bet they're scared to death Usually someone will help them across the street but what if there is no one there Their safety and wel well being being are at t stake Lets Let's not wait for someone to get seriously hurt or killed before we do something about this problem One or two ideas I have are as follows follows follows fol fol- fol- fol lows 1 Mark the street for pedestrians ans and place signs to give us the right of 2 Have the bus div divert rt its route to togo togo togo go around the campus so we dont don't have to cross that street I hope we can work with the City UTA or someone who can help us address this problem Thanks for listening Daniel Berg student |
